Sueton und die Barbaren

Seiten 321 - 334

Among scholars who deal with the construction of the barbarian in Graeco-Roman literature the Suetonian Lives of the Caesars are not regarded as a valuable source. Furthermore, those scholars do not concede an independent notion of barbarians to the biographer. This short paper wants to adjust this scholarly estimation of Suetonius by suggesting that he had an own way in describing and valuating barbarians throughout his works.
