Perlen für Pompeius
Männlichkeit und ökonomischer Diskurs in der Naturkunde des älteren Plinius
Seiten 575 - 597
This paper discusses the idea of masculinity in Pliny’s Naturalis historia. It explores whether there exists a kind of ‘ideal man’ and, if so, who that might be, to what degree questions of sex and/or gender matter and if this idea of a perfect man fits into the contemporary discourse on masculinity. Finally, it offers a closer look at the challenges and dangers a recently conquered empire provides for Roman masculinity.
