Das dreitägige Schweigen des Achilleus in Aischylos’ ‚Myrmidonen‘

Die Bezeugung in den Aristophanes-Scholien und die mehrfache Nachahmung durch Alexander den Großen

Seiten 105 - 125

It has often been doubted whether Aeschylus in his ‚Myrmidons‘ – as the scholia attest – indeed staged an angered Achilles who has been sitting silently in his hut for three whole days. The present paper argues that there is no reason to question this notice of the scholiast and that the peculiar behaviour of Alexander the Great who during his campaign in Asia several times for three days withdrew into his hut out of sorrow or anger was just one of his many ways to imitate the ‚Best of the Achaeans‘. In an appendix the question is raised whether Heinrich Schliemann when withdrawing into his hut, he too, for several days during his last archaeological campaign at Hissarlik imitated not just Achilles but also Alexander.
